Training & Education Experience

Sally Strachey was pivotal in the establishment of the UK Institute of Conservation Stone Group. She lectures regularly at conferences and at post-graduate level, delivering technical seminars to architects, surveyors and heritage professionals. Sally is a visiting conservation lecturer at the Architectural Association and recently visited Cuba as part of their ongoing initiative to set up a dialogue in Havana to discuss conservation policy and training.

Sally Strachey has run apprenticeship programmes for twenty five years. Her most recent masonry apprentice won first prize at both the 2007 Stone Industries Skills competition and The Bath Preservation Trust Awards. Alongside support of the NVQ programme, Sally is also a representative on the Industry Advisory Panel for the FDSc Applied Architectural Stonework and Conservation course at Bournemouth University and Weymouth College. This course promotes a strong belief in integration of masonry, carving and conservation skills, in line Sally Strachey Historic Conservation’s own ethos of creating a multi-disciplinary workforce.
