In addition to our commitment to promoting active involvement with our current projects in the form of site visit and interactive demonstrations of conservation skills for schools and colleges, we are currently planning an exciting new programme of training which responds directly to sector needs. Provision of work-based placements, work experience and practical hands on training are crucially needed in order to equip the conservation workforce with the skills needed to hit the ground running in the business.
A new purpose-built craft workshop is being built to house a facility for the provision of conservation skills, offering the opportunity for groups and individuals to obtain hands on practical training.
Sally Strachey Historic Conservation will offer unique opportunities to learn from a young, dynamic team of conservators, who have worked on some of the most important historic buildings in the country.
Training offered will combine practical workshops with on-site training and cover specialist skills including the conservation of :
- architectural stonework
- monuments
- historic plaster and render
- sculpture and decorative surfaces
Training will also be offered in broader practical skills for conservation students, professionals and non –professionals, including:
- general lime techniques
- church maintenance
- courses for period homeowners
- basic site skills
- site management
