Out of Classroom Learning

Out of classroom learning is an on-site experience of a conservation project in action. The new Heritage GCSE and vocational A-Levels present an opportunity for schools to offer historical context to their classroom-based lessons thereby encouraging essential recruitment into the conservation sector. Sally Strachey Historic Conservation is actively developing a closer partnership with local schools and colleges to provide this unique out of classroom activity.

The National Trust often incorporates conditions into contract agreements which require contractors to provide a programme of education and project engagement with schools and visitors. Sally Strachey Historic Conservation, in partnership with the National Trust at Corfe Castle, ensured that opportunities were given to members of the public, local schools, Weymouth College and fellow professionals to actively engage with the architecture and the conservation team over a period of two years. In addition the National Trust mason for the Wessex area was trained by the conservation team at Corfe in all aspects of architectural conservation.
